The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed its support for the United States’ call for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce in Sudan. This move comes amid ongoing conflicts in the region, with the UAE emphasizing the importance of international cooperation to end the fighting and initiate a political process toward establishing a civilian government.
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of State, voiced backing for efforts to protect civilians and address the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan. He stressed the necessity of halting hostilities and engaging in a comprehensive political dialogue to achieve lasting peace.
In addition to supporting the US call for a truce, the UAE urged the expansion of the existing United Nations arms embargo to cover all of Sudan. The rationale is that such a measure could help curb the flow of weapons and enhance the protection of civilians caught in the conflict.
The UAE has committed to continuing its collaboration with international partners to facilitate a political resolution and alleviate the human suffering resultant from the ongoing turmoil in Sudan. This pledge underscores the UAE’s broader role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
