The Zayed Sustainability Prize, a prestigious initiative from the United Arab Emirates, has set a new record with 10,233 entries from 177 countries for its 2027 awards cycle. This represents a substantial 32% increase in submissions compared to the previous year. The prize honors groundbreaking projects that tackle critical global challenges across six categories: climate action, health, food, energy, water, and global high schools.
Winners in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water are each set to receive a substantial award of $1 million. In addition, finalists in these categories will be recognized with $150,000. The competition also rewards six outstanding high schools, each of which will be awarded $150,000, while the finalists in this category will receive $25,000.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Director General, emphasized that the record number of submissions is indicative of a growing international demand for effective and innovative solutions to enhance quality of life. Notably, over two-thirds of the applications originated from developing and emerging economies, with climate action attracting the largest number of entries.
The anticipation continues to build as the finalists are set to be revealed in September. The culmination of this prestigious event will take place at an awards ceremony scheduled for January 12, 2027, where the winners will be formally honored for their contributions.
