UAE, Germany Leaders Discuss Tech Innovation During Berlin Meeting

During a pivotal state visit to Germany, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in high-level discussions with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin. This visit underscores the strengthening of ties between the UAE and Germany, a relationship that has flourished for over fifty years and has seen substantial growth in recent times through a strategic partnership. In a formal reception at Villa Borsig, Sheikh Mohamed was greeted by senior German officials and signed the guestbook, marking a significant moment in UAE-Germany relations. His itinerary also included visits to the Bundestag and the Neue Wache war memorial, symbolizing the deepening diplomatic ties. This visit marks the first state visit to Germany by a UAE president, highlighting the expanding partnership between the two nations.

As part of his visit, Sheikh Mohamed is scheduled to meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Their discussions are expected to focus on fostering further cooperation in economic and development sectors. The agenda also includes the signing of agreements in key areas such as artificial intelligence, energy, and investment, reflecting the broadening scope of bilateral collaboration.

Diplomatic relations between the UAE and Germany date back to 1972, with a strategic partnership formalized in 2004. The burgeoning economic partnership is evidenced by bilateral trade surpassing $15.5 billion in 2025, underscoring the economic significance of their relationship. The current visit not only represents a milestone in diplomatic relations but also promises to fortify economic and strategic ties further.
