UAE Criticizes Houthi Use of Technology in Threats to Saudi Arabia

Date:

The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation of the Houthi group’s recent declarations aimed at Saudi Arabia, which include threats of initiating a maritime blockade against the kingdom. In response, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged the global community to enforce United Nations Security Council resolutions pertinent to Yemen and the security of the Red Sea.

The ministry underscored the importance of implementing Resolution 2216, which pertains to Yemen, alongside Resolution 2722, which focuses on safeguarding navigation rights and ensuring freedom of movement in the Red Sea. These resolutions are seen as pivotal in maintaining stability in the region, particularly concerning maritime security.

Emphasizing the significance of free navigation, the UAE highlighted that such freedom in international waters is protected under international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. These legal frameworks are crucial for maintaining the uninterrupted movement of vessels in and around the Red Sea.

The UAE also expressed unwavering support for Saudi Arabia, reiterating its commitment to stand in full solidarity with the kingdom. The ministry conveyed its backing for any measures Saudi Arabia might undertake to safeguard its security and stability amid the ongoing threats.
