Russia Strikes Ukraine: Civilian Deaths Mount as Trump Administration Brokers Dialogue

Date:

Russian attacks on Kyiv and Kharkiv caused civilian deaths and 15 injuries, occurring as the Trump administration brokered dialogue between conflicting parties. The strikes on residential areas added to mounting civilian casualties while American officials facilitated peace discussions.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko alerted residents that the capital was “under a massive enemy attack,” directing people to seek immediate shelter. The strikes targeted residential buildings, causing civilian deaths and widespread property damage. Heat and water infrastructure was disrupted in multiple districts, affecting thousands of residents.
Mayor Igor Terekhov reported that Kharkiv experienced attacks from Iranian-manufactured Shahed drones, which contributed to mounting civilian casualties. The drone strikes damaged several residential complexes, demonstrating Russia’s continued targeting of civilian areas. The northeastern city has faced persistent bombardment throughout the conflict.
Despite mounting civilian deaths, the Trump administration successfully brokered dialogue in Abu Dhabi. American, Russian, and Ukrainian representatives engaged in two-day talks facilitated by U.S. officials. The UAE foreign ministry described the discussions as focused on “promoting dialogue and identifying political solutions to the crisis.” President Zelensky met with President Trump before the trilateral talks.
Ukrainian President Zelensky announced that peace proposals were “nearly ready” following his discussions with the American president. He proposed creating a free trade zone in eastern Ukraine under Kyiv’s control. President Putin met with Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as the administration continued brokering dialogue.
