Russia’s Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, has directly refuted Donald Trump’s claim of a “big stop” to Russian oil sales, calling the supplies “very beneficial for the Indian economy and the welfare of the Indian people.”
Trump had told White House reporters that PM Modi “assured” him the purchases would end. Alipov’s statement, however, aligns with India’s MEA, which cited “consumer interests” as its guiding policy.
While defending the economic ties, Alipov’s main purpose was to announce a major defense expansion. He reaffirmed the 60-year military partnership as the “backbone” of India’s armed forces.
This new push includes offers for the Su-57 fighter, drones, and anti-drone systems, all under a “full technology-sharing” model.
By defending the oil trade and simultaneously offering advanced military hardware, Russia is making a comprehensive case for its continued strategic importance to New Delhi.
