Netanyahu’s Global Tour of Condemnation: Blasts UK, France, and 155 Others

Date:

Benjamin Netanyahu’s UN speech was a global tour of condemnation, as he singled out allies and the wider international community for their diplomatic support of Palestine. The Israeli leader effectively put 157 of the 193 UN member states on notice, calling their collective decision-making “insane.”
He specifically targeted recent recognitions by the UK, France, Canada, and Australia, accusing these Western democracies of making a “horribly wrong” and “disgraceful decision.” He argued that they were not advancing peace but were instead encouraging terrorism worldwide.
This verbal assault on the majority of the world’s nations triggered an immediate and widespread rebuke. The coordinated exit of diplomats from over 50 countries was a direct response, a demonstration that his condemnations were not persuasive and had only served to unite his critics.
While Netanyahu may have intended to shame these countries into reconsidering their positions, the effect was the opposite. His speech further entrenched the battle lines, solidifying his image as a leader willing to fight the entire world to avoid a political settlement.
