Texas Builds the Future: World’s Largest 3D-Printed Community Delivers Affordable, Durable Homes

Date:

In Georgetown, Texas, just outside Austin, the world’s largest 3D-printed neighborhood is redefining how homes are built—offering faster construction, lower costs, and eco-conscious design.
The project, a collaboration between 3D printing pioneer ICON and major U.S. homebuilder Lennar, has produced dozens of durable, energy-efficient homes in a community called Wolf Ranch. Using massive robotic printers, ICON began printing the homes in 2022. By 2023, a fleet of 11 machines was working non-stop, producing up to two homes per week.
Unlike traditional builds, each home’s walls are constructed from a custom concrete mix, extruded layer by layer like icing from a piping bag—resulting in uniquely textured, corduroy-style finishes. The concrete provides superior insulation, fire resistance, and durability—ideal for the region’s harsh climate and increasing wildfire risks.
Residents are already praising the benefits. “It’s the safest house I’ve ever lived in,” said homeowner Holly Feekings, whose power bill was just $26 last month thanks to built-in solar panels and efficient design.
Each home in the Wolf Ranch community features three or four bedrooms, solar energy systems, and smart home technology. Prices start at around $400,000—offering high-tech, sustainable living at a competitive cost.
Lennar now plans to scale up, developing a second Texas-based 3D-printed community with larger homes, more units, and even better affordability. “This is how we build the future,” said Lennar’s co-CEO Stuart Miller, citing the homes’ strength, sustainability, and resilience.
